P'nai Or, a new and emerging Jewish community in Long Beach, invites you to "Take Off Your Mask" for Purim on Saturday evening, February 27th at 7:00 P.M. P'nai Or is located at 3955 N. Studebaker Road, Long Beach, CA, at the corner where Studebaker and Los Coyotes Diagonal intersect.
The centerpiece of Purim is the reading of the Book of Esther, the story of how the prayer and spiritual practice of one woman saved the Jewish people from certain destruction. The evening will begin with Havdalah, followed by learning, prayer, and the reading of the story of Esther. Rabbi Micha'el Akiba will be leading the evening, uncovering the spiritual secrets imbedded in this special day.
Unlike other congregations, P'nai Or does not "dress up" in costumes for Purim. At P'nai Or, Purim is an evening of prayer, meditation, and self-discovery, seeking to remove the "costumes and masks" we wear in our daily lives.
